I was sitting on Rožnik hill, there under the veranda, and I was looking in Vrhnika direction. It was a beautiful morning, so clean and clear that I could make out in the distance a white dove, the Holy Trinity. My youth was there.
This Karst region and nearby marshes, known as Barje, have a unique charm, quite different from other locations in Slovenia. You can also take a stroll through Cankar’s Vrhnika, visit the springs of the Ljubljanica, which are really impressive with their unique character, as well as the oldest preserved wooden wheel in the world in Ljubljanica Exhibition Centre.
Small and diverse Slovenia is a treasure trove of stunning opportunities, from mountains, lakes, rolling hill top vineyards, crystal clear rivers, the picturesque coastal towns of Izola, and Piran and more. A short distance south of Vrhnika lies the vast caves of Postojna, where a small train leads visitors into its cavernous interior, and a little further on is world renown Lipica Stud.
